Lasare Samartzidis
PhD Researcher in Economics at IOER | Data Science • Data Visualization • Machine Learning • Large Language Models
Hi, I’m Lasare — a researcher in Complexity and Ecological Economics, currently finishing my PhD, with a passion for working with data and turning it into clear, meaningful, and reproducible insights. Also eager to try out new things, my work brings together data science, visualization, machine learning, and large language models (LLMs) to economic questions.
I enjoy tackling complex questions with code, but what excites me most is making the results easy to understand and useful for others. Whether it’s through interactive dashboards, geospatial analysis, a insightful chart, or simply a well documented code, I aim to create tools and visuals that speak to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Most of my day-to-day work happens in R (tidyverse, ggplot2, Shiny), though I also use Python when it fits the task. Over time, I’ve built automated pipelines, developed reproducible workflows, and experimented with new methods — always curious about what the latest tools can bring to research.
Beyond the technical side, I love sharing ideas, collaborating across disciplines, and presenting my work. I’ve spoken at 18 international and national conferences and workshops and worked with teams at Leibniz, WIG2, and Fraunhofer. These experiences have shown me how important clear communication and openness are in making research impactful. Have a look into my research and drop me an . I’m always happy to collaborate.
